Glen Oaks Magnet High School Serves 6th-12th Grade Students.
Glen Oaks Magnet High School was made a 6th-12th grade school starting in the 2019-2020 academic year. Middle school instruction for 6th-8th grades occurs mainly in the L Building, while the rest of the campus is mostly reserved for high school instruction (9th-12th grades). Middle and high school students share use of common areas such as the cafeteria, library media center, and the open quad area in the center of campus, while also maintaining separation between the two groups. Explore this webpage to learn more about the exciting course offerings and instructional support that students in both of these groups have access to!
High School Curriculum
GOMHS provides a large array of course offerings to its 9th – 12th grade students! Per state requirements, all 9th and 10th grade students pursue a similar curriculum of core academic courses. By the time they become upperclassmen, our 11th and 12th grade students have decided to pursue the Jump Start TOPS Tech Career Diploma and/or the TOPS University Diploma. Students have the potential to complete these pathway requirements through a variety of course offerings, including but not limited to:
- AP courses through College Board
- Dual enrollment courses offered jointly with local universities and colleges
- Magnet and 3 Centers of Excellence programs
- ELL and ESS support and classes
Middle School Curriculum
Middle school students get the best of both worlds at GOMHS! They get the instruction and core course offerings of a traditional middle school while also getting to learn on a high school campus. Many of their elective teachers instruct both middle and high school classes.
Magnet and Centers of Excellence Programs
Glen Oaks Magnet is proud to offer four unique programs in the EBR School System for students who demonstrate an interest and aptitude for medical, health, and radio broadcasting careers. Students are eligible to enroll during Grades 9 – 11. GOMHS is excited to host a medical magnet program, as well as a health science, sports medicine, and radio broadcasting curriculum! Through a multitude of projects, internships, unique lessons, and more, students are able to “try out” a career before they begin their formal post-secondary education in it. The application period for all four programs is open from October 5, 2020 through December 2, 2020 for the 2021-2022 academic year, so if you are interested in applying now is the time to submit your application! For more information about these programs, students and families should visit the “High School Programs” page on the EBR Magnet website or the Glen Oaks Magnet Programs website.
